RAINSFORD Instead of waking up in the jungle, you wake up elsewhere. This is the square where Rainsford comes to decide what to do, and Ivan patiently sits on a bench. It's your job to pick someone to protect. After all, you're saving them. You have a little while to think about who you'll pick tonight, but don't think too hard, since you only have until dawn. "So? Who will you protect?" Ivan asks, so clearly, she's not going to let you think on it that long. rulebook character statuses profiles All night votes will be due 5PM EST two days after trial.

[ Well "patiently." By the time everyone wakes up, it seems like Ivan is only just barely composing herself. She has a stained handkerchief in hand, and it's clear she's been crying for quite a while. ]

( It takes him a moment to catch his bearings again. Where is he? This isn't where he went so sleep. He's quick to draw his sword in case this is a murderous trick of some sort (which he'd spent hours fearing since the sun went down). He'd heard everyone at the trial today. The General, his Hounds, Rainsford, and the Fox... Rainsford had to protect the Fox, the General was going to be after the Fox and Rainsford. They needed to stay alive, everyone was counting on them, they couldn't get caught... What if they found out? What if he'd messed up and they found out? What if the General got lucky?

Instead, he sees Ivan and he lowers his blade, )

Iván-san? ( She seems different from earlier in the day and he steps closer to get a better look, ) Ah... you were crying.

[foxhounds]

Yes... I'm sorry.

[ She looks up and shakes her head. ]

I hate seeing it... Every time someone dies, I hate seeing it.

I'm sorry people were mean to you today. ( He can understand why they're mad! He is too! But Ivan is thet wrong person to be upset at. Ivan is actually really nice, why else would she cry over today? ) We'll--

( "Make sure this is over soon." He wants to say but he glances over at Kamui who had voted for Ivan earlier, )

--So...! ( He says it a little louder though, not too much in case anyone around them might hear. ) This is when the General and his Hounds work, right? And we have to protect someone from him?

( Because the General is a guy ok. The General is a masculine title, alright. )

[foxhounds]

...It is what I deserve. I cannot help any more than this, so it's what comes to pass.

[ She looks forlorn about that, though, but then answers his question: ]

Yes. Together, you'll decide who to protect.

[kametaro]

That's not true! You don't deserve this.

( No one does. He can't think of anyone who would. )

We can't get any help to decide who to protect?

( No clues? A hint? Nothing? )

[foxhounds]

[ She shakes her head. ]

I am the Overseer. My opinion does not matter.

[kametaro]

( He gives Kamui, the only other person he knows he can trust right now, another glance and then looks back at Ivan, )

Can we choose to protect each other?

[foxhounds]

You may only choose one. But you can, yes.

[kametaro]

Then--...

( He starts but stops. It's just like eveyone said today: Unless they pick each other, they're really picking blind. )

How much time do we have to decide?

[foxhounds]

As long as you need. But I do not recommend lingering long. It makes it too obvious to play a part in the proceedings.

[kametaro]

( Nodding and then to Kamui, )

I don't know who to pick. ( He thought he had some ideas but now that the moment's here, he doesn't know. ) Even if we can protect one of us-- and I don't want to be protected either!-- I think... we're pretty safe because there are a lot of other people the General has to pick from, right?

( He isn't sure if Kamui is the type that would protect himself for one reason or another but... yeah, yeah. Their job is to protect others, not themselves because then they're just wasting their roles. )

Um... but I was thinking... maybe we could protect Stocking-san or Rei-chan tonight. Stocking-san was... really helpful today and if I was the General I would want to get rid of anyone trying to help my... "prey." ( That just felt so wrong to say. ) And Rei-chan's played in a game like this before so she might be able to help us more later and... I talked to her at dinner and ( she said she didn't want to die ) I want her to be okay in this game...

( So one is a more logical choice while the other is... well, still logical but it's pretty clear his real motivation there is sympathetic. Sorry, Kamui, your 500+ year old sword spirit is still just a kid at heart. )

... But we really need to find out who the Fox is so we can protect them.

[ He's not exactly surprised to be here, but he is surprised to see Ivan's tears. It shows in his face, a slightly startled expression as he eyes her awkwardly. He won't apologize because he's not sorry. And he still feels it was necessary to pick someone else - anyone else - and she was the only choice to pick - the sure choice. He doesn't exactly blame her for being bound by Fate, but he doesn't think she's as nonthreatening as the others seem to believe. Her choice or no, the display earlier with Kashima and Mary demonstrated her master's power over them - thus her own unwilling power.

He's not going to waste time explaining, however. As she implied, they don't have much of it. He switches focus to Urashima instead. ]

I only agreed to protect you. [ He shakes his head. ] Think on your choice. If the General were smart, they'll assume we'll choose whoever was the most helpful earlier today. So... this Stocking [ He never got around to talking to her, so he only has a vague idea as to which one she is. ] is as good as protected already.

But what if that's what they want us to think! And what if... ( Augh! He's pulling at his hair and shaking his head. ) This is hard...!

( Too hard to go off of nothing at all. And to protect Rei because she was afraid of dying when everyone else was probably afraid too feels selfish. He needs to do his best for everyone, not just him. )

[kametaro]

( He remains on the verge of wanting to speak and uncertainly saying nothing at all, biting down on his lip, and running through as many things as he can in his head. What would his brothers do?

Hachisuka would try to protect him-- his little brother, someone who's already been captured by something before. Nagasone would leave his friends alone because they could defend themselves. He'd protect a leader-- someone important for everyone to look up to. If there was more than one leader, though? Maybe he'd say something like... "That makes my job easier!" Because then even if one died, there would be someone to take over. Maybe...

Maybe... )

Jason-san. ( He tries to sound confident but he's still unsure, ) He argued with Stocking-san a little bit but... it was because he wanted the Fox and us to stay a secret until we knew we were safe. ( He feels... a little better? ) A-and it's good to have people to argue with some times, right?

( He only really know what he's learned from the older spirits. )

I don't know if he's the best one to protect but I think I feel a little better if he's on our side until we know more about everyone else.

( And he'll glance between Kamui and Ivan. Is that okay? Someone help him decide. )

[foxhounds]

[ Her expression doesn't change at all. ]

NIGHT ONE: JASON

Stocking was also close to being voted off. [ By only one actual vote, but the fact remains. ] If they don't think we're going to protect her, they might think we'll get rid of her ourselves.

[ As for Jason Todd: again, Kamui only vaguely remembers who he is, most of which is from whatever the guestbook has on him. ]

"Martial arts, marksmanship, weapon mastery, stealth, psychological warfare, deductive reasoning, technologically inclined, first aid."

He sounds dangerous no matter the side. [ But. ] I suppose he's not a bad choice. Fine.

( No really why is he surrounded by emotionless people this is hard... )

( Hopefully it's a good choice. )

night two

[ Ivan is calmer tonight, so it seems at least in a way, this night was more of what was supposed to happen. ]

[kametaro]

( He fell asleep again. He knew he was tired before but he'd been so determined to stay awake... he looks around the ruins for a moment, trying to see into the jungle around them. He hasn't really had a chance to explore the island but he doesn't recognize this place during the day. Exactly where are they...? )

[ Kamui wakes up easily, not due to any special vampire senses, but - well, because he's hungry. It's an annoying sensation and he feels weak and too sensitive, more prone to irritation and anger. Which is why he's already frowning at Urashima.

Oh, and also because the sword boy recklessly voted off someone innocent. That, too. ]

Urashima Kotetsu.

( He freezes and turns back around. He knows they have a task to do but he can already figure out from the tone there that something else is coming. )
