FOXES Instead of waking up in the jungle, you wake up elsewhere. This is the square where the Foxes comes to decide what to do, and Ivan patiently sits on a bench. It's your job to pick someone to investigate. After all, you're saving them. You have a little while to think about who you'll pick tonight, but don't think too hard, since you only have until dawn. "So? Who do you want to know about?" Ivan asks, so clearly, she's not going to let you think on it that long. rulebook character statuses profiles All night votes will be due 5PM EST two days after trial.

Perfect. [At Ivan, then he peers again at Auger.] Funny, isn't it? How did this supposed Fox figure out her role, be right about it, know about it, and then rat her out? Curiouser and curiouser, Cheshire.

[Jason shrugs as if to say he doesn't have an answer yet.] It's going to be hard for us to talk to people without giving ourselves away, so let's tag people instead. With the paint. One color for innocent people, one for guilty. Someone has to notice, has to correlate it. No one has extra clothes, right? Even if they're washed, the paint shouldn't come out. We'll have to mark something they couldn't take off without looking stupid. Pants. Shirt.

Anyway, when innocent people start dying with one color, or when a guilty person dies with another, someone'll figure it out. The only problem is: some people are going to have to die. [Sorry guys...]

We'll need to take all the paint. [At Ivan again.] Any you've got, we need to know where it all is, and we need it. Only us. We'll have to tag you, [A nod at Ivan.] Souza, and ourselves, but not at once.

If you don't like the paint idea, we could always slice them on the back of the hand a certain way. They might not take kindly to that, though.

[baaaaka]

[ fortunately, Auger is far from caring about whether people die here. The body count so far is nothing compared to what he and his brother have racked up at home. He wouldn't be opposed to slicing people on the hand, either, but that'd be far more difficult.

Paint would be easier to do. Easier to fake, too - but not too easy if they're taking all of it. He's quiet for a moment as he mulls it over. ]

That's not a bad plan. The hard part would be getting it on their clothes without anyone noticing. Well, I guess we could wait for laundry day or something.

[ not a bad plan at all. Just slow. Auger's not as patient when his life's on the line. ]

[Jason shrugs indifferently.] Getting it on them will be the hardest thing we do, if we go with it. I don't know how else we'll tell everyone who is innocent and who is guilty and have them believe us without outing ourselves. Even then, they will still doubt us.

If not paint, we could make rings out of things on the island, but we don't know if they will wear them, and we don't know if they would give it to someone else despite if we told them it could protect them. We'd have to have someone else give it to them. [A glance at Ivan, but not long.] They would think that person suspicious, though.

I don't know. We'll get the paint just in case. [He nods his head.] So, Murdock? He's got my vote unless you can think of someone better. [He'd like to know where Royce really stands, too, but... it can wait. Maybe.]

[baaaaka]

[ the second suggestion makes Auger shake his head. ]

There's no way people would agree to something like that. Let's go with the paint idea. Just be sneaky about it. You can do that, right?

[ he's pretty sure that he can pull something like this off without trouble. He's done worse without getting noticed before. ]

And I think Matt's a good plan. Just so we can be sure if he's pulling our leg or not. [ there's a pause while Auger mulls something over in his head; he looks like he might say something else, but he doesn't. ] Mm, let's do Matt.

[foxhounds]

[ She nods once the conversation proceeds, asking her usual question. ]

Then your choice for the night is Matt Murdock?

[Quietly, for a moment, Jason watches Auger carefully. He notices the guy seems ready to speak, then doesn't. He's curious, but maybe not that curious. Then he looks at Ivan.] Yeah, sure.

Matt Murdock.

[baaaaka]

[ he nods at Ivan, too, quietly waiting for her assessment. He doubts it'll be anything too exciting, but it's better to be sure. ]

[foxhounds]

[ She reaches into a pocket of her dress, since this dress is actually useful, and pulls out a little Moleskine notebook and a penknife. The book is opened on her lap, and she cuts a little incision into her pinky. She winces a little as she cuts herself, but speaks clearly to the book. ]

Who is Matt Murdock?

[ She holds her pinky out over the book, and the red is seemingly absorbed into the pages, leaving no trace of where it stained behind. After a moment, red letters surface on the page. ]

MATT MURDOCK. INNOCENT.

[It's so hard not to feel like it's a waste. Knowing Matt is innocent is a relief, yet... it's almost like they missed an opportunity to find an actual killer, or to find the General. Son of a bitch, it's nerve-racking.

He glances at Auger again.] Well, that means some asshole is posing as us. What's worse, Miss Kitty was guilty of her role, so everyone is going to believe Matt and his fake Fox. We'll look like the imposters if we came out.

Any ideas?

[baaaaka]

[ his feelings are pretty similar on the matter. Innocent. Great. Now there's no reason Souza won't suspect him of lying... ]

Unless you wanna try talking to Matt? Beats me. [ as far as he's concerned, Jason's probably fine. Nobody knows about his identity. But Auger? He might be in trouble. And that annoys him - that his gambit might have failed before it even began. ]

It might be worth seeing who he talks to. Find out who he's close to. One of those guys is probably the one that confided in him. Other than that, we should get artistic.

[He wonders exactly how willing Matt is going to be to calm and reason, and he also wonders how long it will take him to lose all calm and reason since he's Jason Todd. He can try, he supposes.] I'll talk to him. If I can.

If he's resistant to spilling, you can step in. I doubt he's going to give up the name, not when he doesn't know who to trust. We'll see.

When do you want to tag? Both of us or just one? Also, we'll need to pick a color between the two of us.

[baaaaka]

Mm, no problem. [ although if he gets involved with Matt, things might not end so prettily.

As for the paint, though - as Auger stands there looking thoughtful, an idea seems to come to mind, and he glances up at Jason once again. ]

Hold on. I got a better idea. [ it's a little bit riskier, since people will make the connection right away, no doubt - but certainly more straightforward. ] Instead of trying to tag people without them noticing, why don't we just paint their names up somewhere everyone can see? That'll be easier for us, and more obvious to them. People are kinda dumb, after all.

[After some thought, Jason shrugs gently.] All right, I'm game. We just have to make extra sure there's no stray paint lying around so someone else can't do the same thing.

Where do you want to paint? The place we eat where everyone is gathered? We'd have to do it when no one was there, though. [If they could even get in.] The only other place is the mansion. The outside preferably.

[baaaaka]

Outside of the mansion is better, don't you think? I bet we wouldn't be able to get in that room before everyone's gathered.

[ and they sure couldn't do it then. ]

Put it on the wall next to the entrance or something. Some place everyone has to walk by.

Sounds good to me. [AMAZING, they aren't arguing for the time being. Holy shit.] Let's get the paint then. Ivan, [He nods at her.] Souza, and Matt's names, right? We should put up the names of the people voted to die who were innocent. They'll get the hint. Leave our names out for now. Too risky. They'll make guesses at the Foxes.

And do you want to put them up there, or me? I'd leave a space on the other side, do them one below the other, so people will be able to tell it's going to be a list. We'll need to use a "good" color--green, blue, white. Something else for Foxhounds or the General.

Speaking of, since we now know Shijima was a Zaroff, I'd put her name up in a different color, too. It'll help everyone else along.

[ miracles really do happen...

the decision to omit their names is one Auger is glad for, and he makes a noise of agreement. At least this plan is reasonable, even if the rest of the night's been a trainwreck. ]

I'll leave it to you. Don't use up all the paint, okay? And don't get it on yourself, either. That stuff never comes out of your clothes. [ it's phrased as a joke, but it's also half-patronizing... ]

Yeah, yeah. [A dismissive wave. But... true. Gotta be careful with the paint and himself. That'd be awfully suspicious romping around with splotches of it on his clothes...]
