RAINSFORD Instead of waking up in the jungle, you wake up elsewhere. This is the square where Rainsford comes to decide what to do, and Ivan patiently sits on a bench. It's your job to pick someone to protect. After all, you're saving them. You have a little while to think about who you'll pick tonight, but don't think too hard, since you only have until dawn. "So? [ He wakes up first to gnawing hunger. In the dim light it's hard to tell if he is more pale than usual, expression wan and weary. His movements are more careful, less graceful, a little stiff. Regardless, he gets down to business once Urashima wakes up. There's a lot to do tonight. ]

You've already decided.

[ Not a question. ]

( Urashima, meanwhile, wakes up with a purpose. As soon as he begins to stir, he's quick to jump up to his feet and search for Ivan and Kamui. He's hungry too-- anxiety upsetting his appetite in a way unfamiliar to him-- but he right now, there's work to be done. )

We have to protect him. ( His mind is already made up. ) We can't risk it!

[ Kamui doesn't argue; it's the best strategy, he thinks. Especially when they don't have the name of Fox yet. He nods, once, and moves on. ]

I need to talk to [ A pause. He's not really used to saying Fuuma's name like this. ] Fuuma. He knows more than he's letting on - he's that type of man after all. We'll meet in the morning.

[ Again, he stops and studies Urashima carefully. ]

Trust him. If I'm dead tomorrow, you must seek him out.

( "If I'm dead tomorrow."

He can feel himself go cold just thinking about the possibility. Kamui's the first person he could trust and still the best person. If anything happened to him-- it's scary to think about. Should he protect Kamui instead...? No, they have to protect Matt. He can't be selfish and so casually protect his friends.

Urashima takes a step closer and it looks like he might grab Kamui with the way his hands begin to move but instead, he clenches them into fists and keeps them at his side. )

Why would you be-- you'll be okay! ( He wants to believe this. ) I'm certain of it!

( Please please please don't die. )

I'll talk to him, I promise, but there's something I need to tell you too...!

( He tries to make it sound like good news but even he knows the doubts that are going to follow )

I spoke to Souza-san before going to sleep and he told me... someone came to him earlier today! They said they were a Fox!

[ He's more certain of Urashima's safety. There's naturally a higher chance of one of his friends being the General or a Foxhound - and so far none of them have died. He doubts Urashima will be the first to do so. They'd likely try to avoid it if they could. ]

He'll keep you safe. [ Hopefully, that's enough reassurance. There's not much else he can say.

As for Urashima's news: ]

He - didn't say who? [ There's no point in asking why Souza had been checked. He was expecting it since the day of Sephiroth's execution. Bols had seemed too innocent, and Sephiroth had turned out to be innocent, too, so that only left Souza. ] Then... we can trust him.

[ ...Right? ]

( He'd be inclined to agree after speaking to Fuuma at yesterday's trial. If a Hound or the General was in the group, it would be advantageous to keep them together. Safety in numbers, a wolf hiding among sheep, pick your cliche war proverb of choice here. )

When I meet him... can I tell him about us? ( About being Rainsford? Is that still a secret? Kamui had said the night before that he hadn't told Fuuma about him so... )

No. ( But he nods his head to the second point, ) I said it yesterday! Souza-san is a good person. I think I can trust him...!

But uhm, I'll be careful still... We all will be. He told... Kashuu-san too. In case I couldn't be trusted. I didn't tell him about us just in case. ( And likewise, he told Urashima in case Kashuu couldn't be trusted. ) But the Fox also knows Souza is telling both of us so they might investigate us soon! ( If Urashima was the Fox, he'd want to look into everyone invited into his trust circle. ) And that'll be good, right?

[ Hmm. Souza was acting quite suspiciously yesterday, with how outspoken he suddenly was - compared to when his name came up for a vote. But if he had been under the impression that there could only be one Fox, then the pieces fit and his reaction makes sense. ]

If you trust him that much... [ Then go ahead.

There's also the issue of how much they should to tell Matt, but it may be enough to let him know through Fuuma that the Rainsford were aware of the situation. But, as always, they're short on time, so he'll set that aside for now. ]

We should limit how much information goes out. Souza Samonji can know, but I don't trust Kashuu. [ Yet. ] And this way, if there's a leak, we'll know who it is.
