THE GENERAL night five Instead of waking up in the jungle, you wake up elsewhere. This is the square where The General comes to decide what to do, and Ivan patiently sits on a bench, though she's as impassive as ever to what's going on. Each of you has your own foxhound who's barking happily to welcome you back. They'll help you find who you choose to hunt tonight. After all, you're saving them. You have a little while to discuss who you'll hunt tonight, but don't linger too long, since you only have until dawn. rulebook character statuses profiles All night votes will be due 8/26 by 5PM EST

Ivan's a good five inches shorter than Hinata, so when he finally wraps his arms around her in return, after an awkward, confused pause, he can fool himself into thinking this is for her sake.]

[You know what...that was a really rough trial for all of them, she's pretty sure. But Clarine in particular is shaken, blood still on her gloves, though now dried.

She looks down at them for a long moment, expression dull, and then bitterly and tearfully she buries her face in her knees, arms wrapped tightly around her legs.

They can plot murder in a second. They have to mourn, first. And even knowing that Gi-ne was already dead hardly helps the feeling that Clarine definitely ripped that knife across her throat.]

[Alright well we lost murdermom. This... hurts a lot, and honestly, Hinata can't approach Clarine right away. Not because he blames her, but because he's having some SHSL Issues as a result of (seeing himself as) being largely responsible for Gi-ne's death.

Eventually, though, he does venture over, wordlessly taking a seat beside her, close enough that his shoulder bumps hers on the way down. Another moment, then he shifts to move one arm. If she wants a hug, he'll do that. If not, he won't mind.

He's just going to silently grieve beside her either way.]

Hijikata is definitely upset about Gi-ne- how can he not be!!! He only knew her for about five days but he was definitely able to warm up to her (surprisingly), so... ]

Listen, I'm sure Gi-ne wouldn't want you to be crying about her- we have to win this remember? Which means she'll come back and you can see her again.

Five days have gone by, and he's grown closer to these people than he ever thought he would allow himself to. He feels her loss, though not nearly on the same magnitude as Clarine, who had to... Well, there's no point in repeating it. He'll sit next to her, removing his puffy jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders. If anything, it's immensely... fluffy... and perfect to hold and cry in, if she wants. If not, it's just there to keep her warm. ]

Clarine...

[ And really, he doesn't know what to say! Empathy has never been his forte, after all. He hopes that his actions are enough, but he offers two more words. ]

[oh right SO AFTER ALL OF THE GRIEVING AND THE SAD AND EVERYTHING Clarine does have news, and I totally didn't almost forget it.]

Um... we did not kill Jason Todd.

He killed himself...with the gun he had, after wounding Gi-ne. Gi-ne killed Greed, instead. We found him on our way back... so I suppose that counts within the one kill per night rule, since we did not technically take Jason's life.

[It raises a whole slew of other questions, too; not the least of which is what, exactly, the reputation of the general carries if someone would rather kill himself than allow himself to be killed. Thanks, Shijima. But beyond that... the rules of the game, that they were permitted to kill someone without immediate repercussion... that's good to know, too. Maybe the rules of one kill a night aren't as strict as they'd all thought...]

Did Todd... say anything important, before he killed himself?

[After everyone's had time to grieve, Hinata's forced to take up his cat-herding responsibilities yet again. Hopefully he won't have to do this too much more; he's having enough trouble keeping his focus on this, instead of worrying that the others are going to blame him for what happened.]

So... tonight. We have to kill von Garibaldi.

...If the Rainsford gets in the way, he or she needs to die, too.

But, hold on! Before you all go... It was really nice killing with all of you. It made me a better person, in a way. In these five days, I think I grew to love all of you more than almost all of my previous masters. I'm a sword, so it was a strange sensation for me, but if love is when your heart feels all warm and tingly, then I've felt it while being with all of you. Hah, that's cheesy, isn't it?

Clarine, I'm cheering for you and Urashima. Take care of him, he's just a little boy. A bit spoiled and unruly, but he's got a heart of gold. Hinata, at least one night, you should kill someone. It's a life-changing experience, you know, unless you're going for the pure mastermind aesthetic.

Hijikata... Now that we know this was going to happen, thank you for embracing me the way you did, earlier today. [ He smiles. ] All these nights, thank you for being with me. Even if you think you're a bad person, demon vice commander and everything, you really aren't! I was happy when I was with you. I was happy when you came with me to kill Horikawa. I was happy when you approved of me. I was happy when you praised me. You made me the happiest while I was here, and I wanted to thank you for that.
